Mort Kunstler’s Old West – Indians

The Old West in American lore is an exciting saga of courage and fortitude, of promise and hope. Cowboys represented the spirit of adventure and determination that marked the settlers as they explored the vast frontier. Indians, the native Americans who had cherished the land for generations, represent the spirit of tradition and love for an area that was to be shared with a new people.

In this collection of classic western art, renowned artist Mort Kunstler casts his lasso wide over sod busters and saddle tramps. His depiction of cowboy life on the plains is contrasted with the longstanding traditions and sophisticated ways of the native tribes who had dominated that region for a millenium prior to the arrival of the Anglo settlers. On the canvases of these two books, Kunstler paints the story of sacred ways lived in partnership with nature and another life that gave way to fast guns and the urge to dominate as much land as possible with a branded herd.

The San Antonio Express-News said of the two volumes of Mort Kunstler’s Civil War, "Worth far more than their retail price . . . . His detail-rich paintings are well displayed in this format, and the artist’s comments about the journey from concept to finished work are welcome." These two new volumes, produced in a small gift size, contain more than 30 paintings each.
