Gen. Joshua L. Chamberlain

Historical Information

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (1828-1914) was one of the more improbable heroes of the war. A New England minister and college professor who practically sneaked off to war in 1862, he would participate in twenty-four engagements and survive six battle wounds. Promotion to general and the Medal of Honor were among the honors he received.
