Jonas Salk's Polio Vaccine, 1955

Historical Information:

After years of study to develop a polio vaccine, Dr. Jonas Salk announced he had successfully tested one on March 26, 1953. It would be another two years before a nationwide inoculation campaign began. New polio cases in the U.S. dropped to a small fraction of what had previously been reported the first year the vaccine was widely available.
