Tomahawk Throwing Contest

Date Created: 1981

Medium: Oil on canvas

Image Size: 36" x 54"

“This painting depicts ‘rendez-vous’ for the mountain men, the time when they bring in their pelts to trade for supplies - and drink, carouse, and gamble. You can be sure there was many a bet riding on the toss of a tomahawk! I had a great deal of fun painting these trappers. There is nothing like a beard to add character to a face.”
