First Rollout of the Enterprise
September 17, 1976

On September 17, 1976, the Space Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise was rolled out of its hangar for the first time. It took place at Rockwell International facilities in Palmdale, California. Although the Enterprise is the first Space Shuttle Orbiter, it was built as a test vehicle and is not equipped for space flight. The tests using Enterprise aided in the development of Columbia.
