August 6, 1945
On this day, during World War II, the first atomic bomb is dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, killing more than 80,000 Japanese. Thousands more are burned and suffer radiation poisoning from the blast and firestorm. The bomb is delivered by a B-29 bomber, the Enola Gay, under the command of Col. Paul W.
