This Day in History
Avro Triplane

On a day like today in 1909…

One could look up and see this Avro Triplane, one of the first English planes, flying over London or Blackpool. Designed and built by Alliot Ternin Roe, the A. V. Roe planes were invariably referred to as Avros. The company would go on to produce the World War II Lancaster bomber and delta-winged Vulcan jet.
