This Day in History
Buffalo Hunt

On a day like today in the 1830’s…

Plains Indians quickly learned that the bow and arrow was a more effective weapon for hunting buffalo than a lance or rifle. The hunters rode alongside their quarries, aiming for the heart, firing at the moment of forward stride which left an opening past the ribs. A well-timed, well-aimed arrow would penetrate to the heart, bringing down a buffalo in a matter of seconds.
