Charge of the Light Brigade

Charge of the Light Brigade
October 25, 1852

During the Crimean War, the battle of Balaclava took place when the British, French and Turkish forces resisted an attack by Russian troops on their Black Sea supply base. The Cavalry unit (The Light Brigade) under the command of Lord Cardigan led a charge because of confusing orders and took 40% casualties. This action was immortalized in the poem “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
