Little Known Facts About Mort Künstler

Leopard and Cub

...Mort Künstler painted this leopard and cub in 1974?

It was done as a series of 38 paintings of wildlife varying from lions to garter snakes. They all showed the adult with its offspring and were commissioned by Scholastic Book Services to be used as finger puppets. Künstler still has most of the originals. His children had selected some to hang in their rooms. Now they are hanging in their children’s rooms!

The leopard, or panther, lives in Asia, from Malaysia and India north to Siberia and west into Europe as far as the Black Sea. It also lives all over Africa except in the Sahara. A big leopard is 9 feet long, but most are 7 feet. They average 110 pounds and live about 20 years. Leopards are intelligent and, though smaller, almost as good fighters as lions and tigers. A litter is 2 to 4 cubs.
