Spice of Life was one of a series of Berta Ruck novels for which Künstler did the cover painting. After success with his first, Love at a Festival, John Blair, the art director, called on Künstler because he felt he had a knack for painting beautiful women. When interviewed about it, he explained, “It’s easy. I use my wife, Debbi, as a model!”
