...Mort Künstler painted the cover for Trail Smoke by Ernest Haycox?

It was the very first sample Mort Künstler painted after graduating art school at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. The painting was shown to the different paperback publishers until Popular Library saw it and bought the rights to reproduce it for this cover in the early 1950’s. The book sold for 25¢ a copy.
