Gen. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain

General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, USA, Born

Without any formal military training, Chamberlain volunteered and accepted a post as Lt. Colonel of the 20th Maine Volunteers. On the evening of July 1, 1863, beginning an all-night forced march, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain led his regiment to Gettysburg where he would win the Congressional Medal of Honor. After his remarkable exploits at Gettysburg, Chamberlain went on to become one of the best - and most often wounded - Brigade and Division Commanders in the Army of the Potomac.
