General Reynolds, USA, Born

On June 30, 1863, Reynolds led almost half of the Union Army of the Potomac on to Gettysburg, urging his men forward as rapidly as possible. While deploying his troops on the morning of July 1, 1863, he was instantly killed by a sniper’s bullet. Major General Reynolds was the highest-ranking officer on either side to die at Gettysburg. He would be buried three days later near his home in Lancaster, less than fifty miles from the spot where he died.
