General George McClellan


General George B. McClellan Demoted

In the months preceding Abraham Lincoln's decision to demote the general, McClellan was sick with typhoid, faced numerous delays and was constantly overestimating the strength of the enemy thereby hindering his advances against the Confederacy.

Lincoln issued General War Order Number Three, removing McClellan from his command of all the armies so he could concentrate on the Army of the Potomac.
