Jefferson Davis Re-elected President of Confederacy

In 1861, he was made president of the Confederacy and led the new nation throughout the War Between the States. Following the war, Davis was imprisoned for two years without trial by Federal authorities and became a symbol of the “Lost Cause” in the South.
