Lee on Traveller
| “He is stamped upon my memory,” noted an English observer, “as being apart and superior to all others in every way.”
Lee acquired Traveller, his famous mount, in the first year of the war. The horse served his owner faithfully and without injury through the war. He survived the general by only eight months. Traveller is buried just a few feet from Lee outside the chapel of Washington and Lee University. |
