At First Manassas, he became famous as “Stonewall” Jackson for his steadfast defense in battle. He achieved major victories in the Shenandoah Valley in 1862 and became General Robert E. Lee’s brilliant, trusted “right arm” until mortally wounded at Chancellorsville in 1863.
