Yet the two Virginians were alike in their audacity, their devotion to the South, and their mutual trust in one another.
The eleven months that Lee and Jackson were together created a model military partnership. Lee devised the strategy; Jackson executed the movements, especially flank marches and sudden attacks. Their collaboration kept the larger Union army constantly uncertain of both the present and the future.
