Civil War artist Mort Künstler will be in Fredericksburg later this month to release the first in a new set of historic prints.

He will be at the Fredericksburg Area Museum Sept. 27 with Courage in Blue: Chamberlain at Fredericksburg. It's the first of two panoramic paintings portraying the conflict on Marye's Heights Dec. 13, 1862.

The work features Lt. Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain leading men from the 20th Maine in an assault up the hill that overlooks downtown Fredericksburg.

Künstler has made 100 of the 950 limited-edition prints available at a reduced price to the museum for benefit sale. Proceeds from print sales will go toward the museum's summer programs for children and the exhibition program.

Valor in Gray: Kershaw's Brigade at Fredericksburg will complete the set. It will depict Confederate troops defending Marye's Heights.

Prints of Courage in Blue can be ordered now through the museum at $209 each. They will be available Sept. 27.

Those who purchase prints from the Fredericksburg Area Museum will be invited to a private reception with Künstler on the evening of the 27th. The prints are already signed, but the artist will be available for autographs.

Prints can be reserved by calling the Fredericksburg Area Museum at 371-3037.
