  Remember Me Ornament

Mort Künstler's Remember Me is the subject of Timber Ridge School's 2001 collector's ornament.

Fredericksburg provides the backdrop of a scene "acted out thousands of times throughout every Southern state: a man and woman saying 'Goodbye,' knowing it may be for the last time," Künstler says in a press release.

"For many it would be a cherished moment never to be forgotten," Künstler says. "Whispered assurances, a final embrace. Then came the parting, perhaps forever, and both were left clinging to hope and the Biblical proverb, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding."

This is the fifth year Künstler has given the rights to one of his coveted works for the ornament fund-raiser, which has been going on for six years.

Ornament sales have brought in more than $100,000 to the organization - a private, nonprofit school in northwestern Frederick County.

Proceeds from this year's ornament sales will go toward the construction of two new residences that will be home to 34 boys at Timber Ridge School.

Timber Ridge offers long-term care, education, and treatment for emotionally disturbed and learning disabled boys, ages 11 to 17. The school, operated by the Leary Educational Foundation Inc., teaches the boys how to reason and make sound choices based on positive experiences, knowledge, and trust.

The ornaments are available in Winchester for $23.50 at Applegate Antiques, Costco, The Door Mouse, Gaunt's Drug Store, Joanne R. Happ Gallery, Solenberger & Sons Hardware, Kurtz Cultural Center, Shenandoah Fine Arts Gallery, and Stonewall Jackson Museum.

The ornaments, limited to a run of no more than 7,500, are also available at We Keep You in Stitches in Stephens City, Hotel Strasburg, and in Front Royal at Expressions Gift Shop and Gourmet Delights.
