Historical Information
"Without music we couldn't have an army," said Robert E. Lee. In the first year of the war, many regiments had bands and musicians who also served as stretcher bearers in battle. By 1863, men were needed to carry guns rather than to play horns and, especially in the Confederate army, most regimental bands disappeared or were consolidated into brigade bands.
