2003 Mort Künstler Collectible Ornament
Soldier of Faith

This beautiful ornament features Mort Künstler’s painting Soldier of Faith and is completed with a 24 karat plated over brass border.

Mr. Künstler states, “The scene in Soldier of Faith features General Robert E. Lee riding Traveler in front of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Orange, Virginia. During the winter of 1863-64, General Lee’s army was in winter camp nearby Orange and the general prayed at St. Thomas regularly. Those who personally knew General Lee agreed that faith was the foundation of his life. I’ve always admired Lee’s character, which was, of course, founded on his personal faith.” General John B. Gordon observed, “In sunshine and in storm, in victory and in defeat, his heart turned to God.” Lee’s pew at St. Thomas has been preserved and designated by a bronze plaque.

From the school:
Timber Ridge School serves emotionally disturbed and learning disabled male students between the ages of 11 and 19. Funds for the improvement of campus programs and facilities are raised through the sale of ornaments. Your purchase of Soldier of Faith will assist in purchasing an adventure challenge ropes course to be constructed on the Timber Ridge School campus. Mr. Kunstler has been a very generous supporter of the School by donating the use of a piece of his artwork for seven of our eight ornaments.

No more than 7,500 of this eighth in a series of ornaments will be produced. A stand is included with each ornament so that it may be placed on a table or hung on your tree. Each ornament will be shipped with a signed certificate of authenticity and is packed in a presentation box with black felt backing and finished with red ribbon.
