Midťwiwin Ceremony of the Ojibway Chippewa




The ceremonial lodge is portrayed during the initiation of a new member into the Midewiwin, an exclusive society of shamans, or medicine men. The four grades of the society are indicated by the four posts in the rear of the ceremonial lodge. Members showed their rank by the designs and colors painted on their faces.
