On a day like today in 1835…

Things were calm and serene in 1835 as shown in this family winter scene. The economy was strong when Andrew Jackson turned over the reins of government to the new President, Martin Van Buren. However, due to financial policies instituted by President Jackson during his tenure, the nation suffered a financial panic in 1837. It would take the United States years to recover.
