Congressional Medal of Honor Awarded
December 5, 1964

On this day in 1964, during the Vietnam War, the Congressional Medal of Honor is presented to Captain Roger H.C. Donlon for heroism in Vietnam. It is the first medal awarded since the Korean War. Donlon earns the award for heroic action as commanding officer of Army Special Forces Detachment A-726 in violent fighting near Nam Dong.
