Rick Nails a Drachen

...Mort Künstler did this painting of Eddie Rickenbacker’s famous Spad from World War I?

Commissioned in 1964 to do six paintings of the planes of World War I’s famous flying aces, the Rickenbacker plane from the famous Lafayette Escadrille was an easy choice. Renwal, the model kit company, used the paintings for their box cover art. To add interest, Künstler showed a German balloon being shot down, leading to the title of the painting, Rick Nails a Drachen.
