The Civil War, Day by Day

Jackson on Little Sorrel

Jackson on Little Sorrel

Of the four horses Jackson had in the war, Little Sorrel was his favorite. He purchased the undersized mount as a gift for his wife, but horse and rider took an instant liking for each other. Little Sorrel died in 1886 at the age of thirty-five. The animal's stuffed remains are in the VMI Museum.
